I love and hate Dorset Cereals

erm... i really like dorset cereals muesli:
http://www.dorsetcereals.co.uk/

i've just eaten my way through a packet of their kiddie cereal:
http://www.dorsetcereals.co.uk/our-recipes/our-recipes/breakfast-projects/no1-original

and just had a look, and it's got over twice as much sugar as the grown-ups cereal.

if they're supposed to be 'honest, tasty cereals' don't you think on the box it should say 'for your children if you want them to get really fat and unhealthy - now with twice as much sugar as our other products'?

rant over...

Email Dorset Cereals about the amount of sugar in their kids cereals

Here's their email:

Here's a suggested email:

Hi,

It's been brought to my attention that the amount of sugar in your kiddies
cereal is 11.2g within a 30g serving.

The adults version is only 15.3g in 75g of cereal.

Can you tell me why your kids ceeral has over twice the sugar content than
the adults version.

Surely this is irresponsible?

    Here's a response I got from them:

    Dear Ms Mellor

Thank you very much for contacting us here at Dorset Cereals about our new
Children’s Breakfast Projects. Please accept my apologies for the delay in
    responding to you.

It is generally recognized that breakfast is the most important meal of the
day, and studies within this country have proven that children who have a
substantial breakfast perform better in the classroom, than those who have had
little or no breakfast*. Health and nutritional professionals have advised that
20 to 30% of guideline daily amounts should be consumed at breakfast. Here at
Dorset cereals we follow our Honest, Tasty and Real motto which is why for our
breakfast projects we have put the Children’s GDAs easily visible to all.

Whilst developing our children’s cereal here at Dorset, parents within our
team highlighted that children liked sweet things and frequently add sugar to
their breakfast bowl. We have pre-added raw cane sugar and honey to sweeten the
cereal naturally and therefore remove the need to add more at the breakfast
table. Our Breakfast Projects No.2 (with apple) recipe provides 17% of the GDA
sugar figure and our Breakfast Projects No.1 (plain) recipe 14%, so enabling
them to enjoy our delicious cereal and set them up for the day ahead”

I hope you find this information useful and informative.

    Kind regards

I'm going to keep emailing them as I dont think it's the best response. I'll keep everyone posted

I emailed them a couple of months back, and I got excatly the same reply. I was expecting too, as  that is what most large companies tend to do- recycle their replies.

I was rather dissapointed with the reply, because it did not give me the best response, as you have rightly said. They seemed to completly ignore my question

" Why does the childrens have more sugar content than the adults ?"

And just added a load of nonsense in, that I already knew, and did not answer my question.
