campaign.

I used to work in a supermarket and the amount of food that we threw away because it was out of date was disgraceful! Lots of the tinned goods or packaged goods never go off anyway, yet we had to throw them out because it was no longer legal to sell. We did manage to save some bread and other goods where the date had not been printed on though, but only by selling them to staff at discounted prices - we still couldn't sell perfectly good food to the customers. Crazy!

It does seem totally immoral to be throwing away edible food when lots of people are struggling and in some parts of the world........starving to death!

There is an interesting statistic from WRAP, the government-backed organisation running the 'Love Food Hate Waste' campaign. Apparently if we didn’t dispose of food which could have been eaten, we would save at least 15 million tonnes in greenhouse gas emissions each year; this is the equivalent of taking one in five cars off the UK's roads.
