Food Miles

Would you be prepared to only buy food that is produced within say 20 miles of your address – or if you live within a large city say within 20 miles of the area around the city?

Do you think that this would improved carbon emissions? Trouble is that you might not be able to eat another banana. Would you be willing to go down that route?

  • No way would I give up that – and I don’t have to, either, ethically speaking. I’m totally prepared to go down the route of carbon rationing – but not complete carbon abstinence! The planet’s carbon cycle can absorb x percent of CO2 every year, I don’t know what the figure is – otherwise animals with their CO2 exhalations would have changed the climate as soon as they evolved. I think it is something like 1 tonne of carbon (or is it CO2) that each global citizen would be able to produce on a sustainable level.
