A FAIRER WAY TO REDUCE VEHICLE EMISSIONS
This letter is being sent to the Prime Minister, amongst other MPs (A helpful reply is not expected)
In the light of the recent and current decisions to tax both private and commercial vehicles on the potential volume of their emissions, would you mind answering a couple of questions please?
Q1 Is the theory behind these taxes:-
a) to raise yet more tax revenue?
b) to price poorer families off the road and thereby reduce congestion?
c) to actually make an impact on Climate Change?Q2
d) Would a 50%- 75% reduction in vehicle emissions solve the problem?
e) Would a 2 billion litres reduction in fuel consumption and its revenue implications mitigate against (d)?
f) Would a 10%-15% reduction in fuel costs for ALL drivers, without a significant loss of tax revenue, be acceptable to Govt.?
e) Would such a reduction, without further cost implications to the user, have a beneficial effect on commercial haulage?
f) Would a product that can deliver these results be of benefit to the country? There is such a product, manufactured in the U.S.A. and sold in over 200 countries world wide that the manufacturers guarantee will achieve these results. Available now, it costs LESS than the fuel saved yet it is unaknowledged in the UK. The Dept of Transport has the information, as has the London Ambulance Service two Police forces, the RHA and the FTA, 1st Group and other large transport organisations. None have expressed any interest or made inquiries as to details. Why?
The inevitable conclusion is that neither side of the costs or emissions argument is really concerned with Climate Change or the inevitable increase in the cost of living as all goods become more expensive to deliver and many small hauliers are forced out of business until better times come around again – if they do!
Is Government’s concern over Climate Change only political? and that of the media an eagerness to indulge in a Talking Shop whilst writing good Copy?
One answer to these questions is an overwhelming Apathy and a feeling that the problem is too big for any one person to have any effect on the outcome. This is not true. Each 12 gallon fuel tank emits the same weight of gas as a full grown man; a 75% saving of that magnititude for each individual WILL make an impact. The other reason, I suspect, for the lack of expressed interest in companies is the old princilpe the ‘No one gets fired for saying NO’ (to anything new)
I don’t know if I am allowed to add a contact here – always supposing that somebody would like more information, but my e-mail address is here on this site and I can explain our difficulties in achieving interest in what we want to do and will welcome any suggestions for promotion without finance.
Apathy is our enemy!
