DIY Nag # 8: Sexy Salad Club
Because Thursday lunch time is about to get a whole lot sexier...

The general idea
You're in an office.
Lunch time is a supermarket sandwich.
Lunch time is high in calories, high in fat and high in the boredom stakes.
Lunch time doesn't have to be this way.
Sharing food is a great way to meet new people, have amazing conversation and most importantly, put something in your belly that you may not have tried before!
Why why why?
A guest from Canada told me about something new they were trying over there - Salad Club. Once a week in his office, people bring in different items of salad/protein/meat/veg/fruit, pile it all together, share, eat and laugh. Then they get back to their afternoon work with a big smile on their face, a tummy full of goodness and they don't have that dirty feeling that preempts telling yourself that you are just too busy to take a lunch break.

What do you want me for?
The aim of this nag is to ensure you never have a boring lunch again. Once you've contributed a pepper, a carrot and a small loaf of bread and ended up experiencing a plate of food that is varied and exciting, you'll never be able to go back to that supermarket sarnie. I want offices across the country and the world to take on this initiative and once a week, take the time out to share their precious lunch hour, make a new friend and eat food that make your insides go 'Mmmmmm!'

How? How? How?
In our office we follow these simple rules:
1. Don't talk about Salad Club
2. Be there every Thursday in the kitchen at 1pm
3. Bring in a few salady items (like tomatoes or lettuce or spring onions) and one non salady item (like chicken or cheese or fish or tofu or whelks or fluff)
4. Chip in and help with the preparation
5. Chip in and help with the tidy up (no excuses!)
6. Remember to be fair - don't turn up empty handed week after week and expect someone else's salad delights and friendliness
7. Eat, talk, flirt, laugh, moan, swap ideas...and who knows what could happen!

Who? Where? What? How Many? Can You Prove It?
I thought I was quite a foody. I was a massive meat and carb eater and thought lunch couldn't exist without a loaf of bread and half a pig/cow/goat/sheep/small child inside it. Then I started going to Sexy Salad Club.
It is amazing to see people come alive when they talk about food and their passion for it. Some people experiment. Some people stick with the classics. Either way it's hard not to be influenced by it when it's happening all around you.
Now I eat raw beetroot. I eat tofu. I still like steak but I may have also tried some whelks. And cheese so stinky it will blow your head off. I've found I will never like fennel.
Try Salad Club for yourself and see what happens to you. It's pretty special.
