Horizontal Holiday #3 I went wild swimming in Paradise Pool!
created by dstart 6 months ago
The Summary
We checked out some of the amazing Wild Swimming sites around Britain, from the new 'Wild Swimming' guide book and went to Paradise Pool where there is a wicked rock slide and a big plunge pool
The Journey
We were in Scotland anyway, near Edinburgh, so we took the train to Stirling and walked the 3 miles up into the hills and down to this secret burn and pool called 'Paradise Pool'. It's in a wooded gully with loads of plunges along the way. There's a pub nearby called the Sheriff Muir inn, one of the oldest pubs in Scotland and on the site of one of the great battles. We warmed up by the fire too.
The Benefits
Wild Swimming is free and fun and feels like a proper big adventure in the outdoor world. You can immerse yourself in the sweetest fresh rain water that flows from our hills, dive into pools, swim with otters and make rafts. It is cold, but after a hot sunny day of tree climbing and exploring its a good way to cool down. Plus cold water is good for the immune system and libido. In fact freshwater plunging is pretty addictive!
The Cost
Just the cost of travel, and perhaps buying a guide book.
