I love and hate Dorset Cereals

erm... i really like dorset cereals muesli:

http://www.dorsetcereals.co.uk/

i've just eaten my way through a packet of their kiddie cereal:

http://www.dorsetcereals.co.uk/our-recipes/our-recipes/breakfast-projects/no1-original

and just had a look, and it's got over twice as much sugar as the grown-ups cereal.

if they're supposed to be 'honest, tasty cereals' don't you think on
the box it should say 'for your children if you want them to get really
fat and unhealthy - now with twice as much sugar as our other products'?

rant over...

Maybe they have really good reasons for having that sugar?

I mean, kids might need that much sugar, otherwise they won't have the energy needed for running around the place, setting fire to cars, swearing at adults and wearing hoodies.

Have you tired comparing the sugar they have to the RDA for growing children?

    Hmm...

It might be a sales thing. Adults will eat what they like but kids want there food to taste like its come out of a test tube. This is why the sweets market is aimed at children. But your right, it is irresponsible!

    Don't be fooled

Its a myth that kids need more sugar than adults. From a nutritional point of view, they need exactly the same sort of balanced diet as we do. In fact, sugar and salt content for cereals and all other foods should be in the same proportion, if not lower, than for adults. Adding sugar can lead to excess calories, tooth decay and a sweet tooth the effects of which last for life. Don't let them off the hook. This is blatant 'playing to the crowd'.
